    About this item: Sinuous fins frame an elongated face sculpted of sese wood. Kwaku Ofosuhene Apenteng carves the dramatic profile and embellishes it with brass and copper. He names this elegant mask Apaata, or "tilapia fish" in the language of the Akan people of southern Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire.

    About our Artist: I studied business and worked for many years in the field, but I wasn't satisfied. In 1984 I was introduced to the carving profession by my cousin who was a carver and also a professional teacher. He taught me how to carve for about a year, which seemed to come naturally to me. I then started a full-time professional carving career late in 1985. I have been carving on my own ever since. I also learned how to decorate my works with brass and beads, making them unique....
